The Lofts at 7714 is the Place for Mint Hill’s Female Entrepreneurs

The building in downtown Mint Hill now known as The Lofts at 7714 has a long and storied mill and manufacturing history as an economic producer for the local economy and as a provider of jobs for local residents.  Today, as a retrofitted mill property it is generating new history as the place for Mint Hill’s female entrepreneurs.

Eight of the ten unique commercial spaces within The Lofts at 7714 are now occupied, and a majority five of those eight are occupied by female owned businesses:

  • JMMT Partnership:  The owner and property manager of the building known as The Lofts at 7714 for over twenty years, this partnership has a majority female ownership in the three daughters of John and Margaret Healy who bought the building in 1963, for a total of over fifty years in the family.

Mint Hill Yoga Expanding its Studio within The Lofts at 7714

Just over a year and a half after opening its yoga studio in The Lofts at 7714, Mint Hill Yoga is more than doubling its studio space within this retrofitted mill building in the heart of downtown Mint Hill.  The popularity within the Mint Hill community for the studio and its teachers has been enormous.  With its expanded studio space, Mint Hill Yoga will be able to accommodate the high demand from interested students by featuring larger class sizes.  In addition, with more space, Mint Hill Yoga will be able to expand its offerings for seniors and others with special needs, a key mission of the studio.

Pottery 51 Open House in Mint Hill

Pottery 51’s Second Friday reception and studio tour is this Friday, November 8th from 6:30 to 9 pm at the studio located in The Lofts at 7714.  This month’s featured artists are long-time Pottery 51 leader David Bridge and Althea Mead-hajduk.

Pottery 51’s studio houses 26 local potters who spin and bake their clay works on site.  The end results are displayed in the front gallery as well as in each potter’s individual space, which makes Friday night’s reception the perfect time to start your holiday shopping.  Forget the “same old, same old” gifts this year.  Give a truly unique gift – a piece made by a local artist in Mint Hill.

Mint Hill Yoga Introducing Yoga Book Club

It’s not too early to think about your New Year’s Resolution.  Make a different kind of resolution this year – one that truly enriches your mind, body and spirit.  Starting in January, Mint Hill Yoga will offer a Yoga Book Club, which will meet on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm starting on January 8th.

Consider making this your resolution.  For only $5 per week, pre-registered participants will enjoy tea and cookies while they discuss reading and what it means for them on and off the mat.  Pre-registration will be available on www.minthillyoga.com in mid November.

The first book up for discussion is The Bhagavad Gita translated by Stephen Mitchell.  Bettie Shea, the owner of Mint Hill Yoga, describes it as the story of Arjuna, a young warrior on the battlefield, and his encounter with Krishna, who is God incarnate.  The entire story is a conversation between the two about life and death, the after life and spirituality.  It is a story you will truly never forget.

Bettie Shea of Mint Hill Yoga:  Since opening her own yoga studio in The Lofts at 7714 a little over a year ago, Bettie’s business has grown tremendously.  She and two other instructors offer multiple classes per week in a variety of yoga styles, including senior yoga, Vinyasa, gentle Hatha, Fusion, Slow Flow and Deep Stretch.  They also offer Friday night workshops.

Asylum Digital Starts Third Year in The Lofts at 7714

October marks the two year anniversary of Asylum Digital Recording Studio’s move into The Lofts at 7714.  JMMT Partnership, the owners of The Lofts at 7714, welcomed Asylum Digital in October of 2011.  Owner Scott Slagle spent the first several months of his tenancy transforming his space from a former cabinet shop into his artistically designed and decorated three room space, which includes an 850 square foot live room and a 300 square foot control room.  In addition to recording and mixing, Asylum Digital also offers graphic and web design services and photography.

Mint Hill Yoga Readies its New Studio in The Lofts

Mint Hill Yoga will soon have its new studio within The Lofts at 7714 ready and open for students.  Bettie Shea, owner of Mint Hill Yoga and a certified Yoga teacher, has been busy designing and decorating her studio since signing a lease in late August.  The 250 square foot space now has a fresh coat of paint on the walls and decorated ceilings.  Once hardwood flooring is laid, the result will be a serene and peaceful environment for the practice of Yoga.  Bettie anticipates offering several forms of Yoga through various Yoga teachers when the studio opens in October.  Stay tuned for more information about class types and times.
