Designer and artist Justin Johnsen has relocated his studio, Bronsen Company, to Suite E in The Lofts at 7714, the former mill property located in downtown Mint Hill, NC. According to the studio’s website, Justin develops “artistic objects through in-depth explorations of surface design, tabletop items, furniture, lighting, and textiles.”

After eight years as a valuable tenant in The Lofts at 7714, Mint Hill Yoga is closing its physical doors and re-imagining itself as a virtual yoga studio as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
To start, Mint Hill Yoga will offer four public practices per week via Zoom. Going into the fall, special outdoor offerings and Meditation and Practice workshops are planned. Additional public classes may be added, and private lessons with owner and yoga instructor Bettie Shea are always available.
A Small Business Success Story
Bettie Shea’s Mint Hill Yoga is one of the original tenants in The Lofts at 7714, which was the 2012 reinvention of this former mill property into its current adaptive reuse space in downtown Mint Hill that houses up to 10 commercial tenants.
As she was starting her yoga studio in 2012, Bettie initially rented out a section of the Lofts then-vacant anchor space, Suite B (now home to Spotlight Performing Arts Academy), on Sunday afternoons. Once she determined there was enough interest for a full-time studio, Mint Hill Yoga leased the smallest space in the building, the 250-square foot Suite G.
Although it was a nice little space for a start-up, Bettie worked to make it her own as a soothing studio for yoga and meditation. She installed new flooring, created a flowing ceiling with white fabric and painted the walls a soothing blue. The atmosphere along with Bettie’s welcoming personality soon grew Mint Hill Yoga’s client base.
By the summer of 2014, Bettie outgrew Suite G and moved her thriving yoga studio into the larger 685-square feet Suite E, where she has been ever since. She once again imprinted her personal touch on the space and continued to grow her business.
In January of this year, Mint Hill Yoga was a thriving space where yoga students came to learn, practice, meditate, knit (yes, knit) and socialize. Bettie had renewed her lease for another year with JMMT Partnership, the owner of The Lofts at 7714, and the future was bright.
Then the pandemic hit. But true to form, Bettie did not give up. She, like many other small businesses, is figuring out how to keep her livelihood going by pivoting to an online format. Last month, she informed JMMT Partnership of her decision to close up her Suite E studio as of the end of August.
“We are so sad to see Bettie and Mint Hill Yoga leave The Lofts at 7714,” said Mary Crotty, managing partner for JMMT Partnership. “She has not only been a stable and reliable tenant for the last eight years, she has been such a wonderful caretaker of this retrofitted mill property. Our family can’t imagine the building without her.”

The Lofts at 7714 adds another female entrepreneur to its thriving business tenant community in downtown Mint Hill. On July 1st, The Posh Paper Lady moved into the building’s 500-square foot Suite H, which was vacant for only one month.
Owner Sherry Williams will curate and publish crafting videos for her YouTube channel The Posh Paper Lady within Suite H. Her latest videos celebrate Christmas in July, with projects on creating your own holiday decor and cards.
In addition, Sherry will produce her unique paper-based products that are for sale on The Posh Paper Lady Sellify page.
Sherry’s crafting business started out as a hobby in her own home. After two years and significant success (hundreds of crafting videos), she was ready to move into a commercial space.
“My sister Margy Pettit and I were thrilled to help Sherry make that transition,” said Mary Crotty on behalf of the managing partners for the family-based JMMT Partnership, which owns The Lofts at 7714. “Our father originally bought this former mill property in the early 60’s to house his own small business concern, and we really like carrying on that tradition by leasing to entrepreneurs who also dream of being their own boss.”
The Posh Paper Lady joins five other female owners leasing commercial spaces in The Lofts at 7714. These woman-owned organizations make up the majority of the building’s tenant community:

On June 1, Cleaaan Ventures, LLC moved into Suite G in The Lofts at 7714, the retrofitted mill property in downtown Mint Hill. Cleaaan Ventures is the producer of the forthcoming eco-luxe fashion label Very Best.

JMMT Partnership, the owner of The Lofts at 7714, is excited to announce that World News Group has signed a two-year lease for a 1,400-square foot space in downtown Mint Hill’s only remaining textile mill.
WNG has been publishing faith-based journalism since 1986 from its Asheville, NC headquarters. The non-profit will use Suite I in The Lofts at 7714 to produce it’s latest product–a weekday news program in podcast form for school-aged children and teens. Former local meteorologist Brian Basham will develop and host the podcast.
“We are so pleased to have Brian and WNG in the building,” said Margy Pettit, Managing Partner for JMMT Partnership. “They will make a great addition to our tenant community.”

In 1945, the Kings Craft Hosiery Mill opened at 7714 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in downtown Mint Hill. Visitors looking for Suites E-K (rear entrance tenants), take the driveway toward the parking lot located at the back of the property. Parking is also available along the right side of this driveway.
Tenants and visitors can access Suites E-K through either of the common back entrances.
